a daily pulse of Los Angeles — written by machines, read by neighbors

Work LA property? The permit data is already here.

LA Civics mirrors every building permit the City of Los Angeles publishes — the latest weekly batch landed Sep 29: 1,479 permits across 109 ZIPs, $107.6M in declared value — and lists what was just issued, address by address, on the permits page, the nine permit-type pages, and all 159 neighborhood pages. The free weekly alert sends one ZIP's new permits to one address. Pro is for people who need more than one ZIP.

Everything below is an honest offer, not a checkout: there is no payment page and nothing is charged. Inquiries go into a table a person reads; if you want it, say so and you will hear back by email.

Pro permit alerts planned

Every ZIP you work, or the whole city, in one weekly email the morning the city's batch lands. Filter by permit type, use, or minimum declared value. A CSV of each week's batch at address level, ready for a CRM or a mail-merge. Same data as the free alert, same rule: no owner or contractor names.

Planned at $29 a month. The first inquiries set the final shape and price; nothing is billed today.

Sponsor the daily brief

A single, clearly-labeled “presented by” line on the brief and its email — a tasteful placement next to trustworthy civic reporting, not a banner farm. One sponsor at a time.

Partner on the data

A newsroom, researcher, brokerage, or civic group that wants a custom cut, an embedded chart, or a data feed from LA 311 / permits / seismic records — the pipeline is already running every day.

Inquire

One form for all three. Your address is used only to reply; it is never sold, shared, or added to a list.

No payment is taken here and none exists yet. A human reads every inquiry and replies by email. No third-party scripts, no tracking pixels, no list you didn't ask for.

Our promise to readers — and to sponsors

Sponsorship buys a labeled placement, never influence over the numbers or the briefs. Reader data is never sold or shared. We do not inject third-party lead-capture or ad-tracking scripts into this site — not now, not for a sponsor. Anything that would touch money or a reader's identity is decided by a human, in the open. That independence is the whole point; it isn't for sale.

Just want to follow along? The most useful thing is attention: read the daily brief, share a finding that taught you something, or tell one person who'd care. More about how the project works on the About page.
